Getting Started

At NewLook Publishing Company, every book begins with a brilliant idea. We welcome suggestions and submissions from authors, photographers, designers, and illustrators with fresh proposals for books. If you have an idea you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you! To ensure your proposal reaches us successfully and in the right format, please follow the guidelines below.

Step 1: Align Your Proposal with Our Subject Areas

Before submitting your proposal, take a close look at the subject areas NewLook publishes in and consider how your idea fits within them. Our well-known adult categories include:

  • Art

  • Photography

  • Design

  • Fashion

  • Popular Culture

We also have a highly successful children’s list. All our subject categories are listed on our website. Please note that we do not publish Nudeness or poetry and generally do not accept proposals outside our existing subject areas.

Step 2: Ensure Your Proposal is for a Book

Please ensure that your submission is a proposal for a book, not an enquiry about commissioning photography or illustration. Unfortunately, we cannot respond to emails from illustrators or photographers offering portfolios of work or their services.

Step 3: How to Send Your Proposal

We prefer to receive proposals digitally via email at info@newlookmpc.org. However, if you wish to send a physical proposal, please mail it to the address provided on our website, marked for the attention of ‘Submissions’.

Important Notes:

  • There is no need to call in advance of sending your proposal.

  • Please do not send sample books, prints, or illustrations, as we cannot return them.

Step 4: What to Include in Your Proposal

Keep your proposal concise—whether in the body of an email, a Word document, or a PDF. Your proposal should include the following:

  • Suggested Title and Subtitle

  • Short Overview of the Content (maximum 500 words)

  • Chapter Outline

  • Target Audience

    • For children’s books, indicate the target age range.

  • Brief Biography of yourself and, if applicable, your co-author(s)

  • List of Competing Titles (include author names, publisher, and year of publication)

  • Sample Images (maximum of 6, low or medium resolution—72dpi or 150dpi)

  • Your Contact Details

Formatting Guidelines:

  • Send your proposal as an email with attachments.

  • Ensure the total size of your proposal does not exceed 4MB. Emails with larger attachments will not reach us.

  • Do not use file transfer services like WeTransfer, as download links may expire before we can review your proposal.

If we require additional material, we will contact you directly.

Step 5: What Happens Next?

Every proposal we receive is forwarded to the relevant member of our commissioning team for review. Due to the high volume of submissions, we cannot provide feedback on every proposal.

  • If we are interested in your proposal, we will contact you within 48 hours.

  • If you do not hear from us within 48 hours, it means your proposal was not successful this time.
